Smart hire: GB1 recruits adrenaline junkie Jemima Lines

I have yet to meet GB1’s latest signing Jemima Lines, but from everything I have read about her in the British mainstream media over the past 24 hours, two things are clear.

First, she's a major badass – and second, her résumé is a breath of fresh air when it comes to America’s Cup sailor signings.

It will come as no surprise to readers that the 29-year-old’s background combines elite-level competition experience in the British Olympic Sailing Team (where she was understudy to gold-medal-winning kite surfer Ellie Aldridge at Paris 2024) with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (pretty much a prerequisite for any aspiring America’s Cup sailor in this current era of semi-automated, AI-driven, foiling boats).

What people probably were not expecting is the pure adventurer element of her résumé, which includes working as a basecamp guide on Everest, climbing mountains in Alaska and traversing Mongolian mountain ranges.
