The Conde de Godó Trophy of Barcelona, the oldest competition in Spanish cruising sailing, will hold its 52nd edition from May 29 to June 1 on the racecourses of the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona, with the participation of nearly one hundred boats and 700 sailors from thirteen nations.
Boats will compete in the ORC (0 to 5), ORC double-handed, J70 One Design, and Women's One Design (Women's Cup) divisions.
The crew of the DK46 'HM Hospitales-Hyatt' (CN El Balís), steered by Olympic champion Fernando León, will be trying to regain the ORC1 division title they won in 2023, and will face their direct rivals, the Swiss sister boat 'Kajsa III' (RCN Barcelona), helmed by Spanish Olympian Luis Martínez Doreste.
In the ORC 4-5 division, Gonzalo Calvo's IY998 'Lassal' (RCN Valencia) crew will also be looking to repeat their victory from last year. In the J70s, Luis Martín Cabiedes's 'Noticia' (RCN Barcelona) be on the hunt for a third consecutive title, but with strong competition from Pablo Garriga's 'Tenaz' (RCN Barcelona).
Amongst the favourites in the J70 Women's division, is 'RCN Barcelona' under the command of Olympic medalist Natalia Vía Dufresne, while the Figaro2 "Shaka" (RCN Barcelona), second in 2024, will tis tipped to win the ORC double-handed division.
The first race of this edition was for the ORC double-handed fleet, which departed yesterday, Thursday, at 15:00 CET with another race scheduled for Saturday.
Among the seven offshore races planned for the ORC double-handed fleet – that will start and finish in Barcelona – the longest will be from Barcelona to Cap de Creus at 180 miles (334 km), and the shortest from Barcelona to Blanes, at 70 miles (130 km).
The remaining classes will compete from Friday, May 30, to Sunday, June 2. Three race courses have been set up for this edition, and the regatta program includes a total of seven races for the ORC classes, and 10 races for the J70 and women's one-designs, in addition to three races for the new ‘Promotion’ class.
Two boats stand out among its list of winners: Rafa Carbonell's 'Rats On Fire', winner of thirteen editions, the last ten consecutive, and HM King Juan Carlos's 'Bribón', with eleven, a record it held from 1979 to 2021.
The Conde de Godó Trophy, along with the PalmaVela regatta in Mallorca and the HM Queen of Valencia Trophy, that count toward the 2024 Mediterranean Sailing Circuit.
This event is organized by the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona (RCNB) on behalf of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation (RFEV) with the collaboration of the Catalan Sailing Federation (FCV).
