A glance at the SailGP Season 6 leaderboard could lead the casual observer to think that Tom Slingsby’s three-time season championship winners the Bonds Flying Roos are already well on their way to a fourth overall victory in 2026. After all, the Australian crew holds a massive 12-point lead at the top of the table going into the ninth regatta of the 2026 season taking place in Sassnitz, Germany this coming weekend. But, while there’s no denying that the Roos are rock-solid favourites to contest the 2026 Grand Final in Abu Dhabi this November, the question of who the on-form team is right now is somewhat more complex.
A deeper dive into the Season 6 results shows that Diego Botín’s second-placed Spanish Los Gallos crew have also been having a stellar season, but one that has been marred by major technical breakdowns beyond their control.
