The BONDS Flying Roos arrive as clear championship favourites following their dominant victory at last month's Enel Rio Sail Grand Prix, and a strong result on these technically demanding waters could give Australia a stranglehold on the season standings heading into the second half of the campaign.
Hunting them down is a chasing pack with plenty to prove.
Emirates Great Britain, the reigning 2025 Season champions, trail by seven points after a shocking Rio result that left Dylan Fletcher unusually candid in his post-event assessment — the team "didn't sail well enough." Bermuda has historically been kind to the British squad, and expect them to come out aggressive from the gun.
Sweden's Artemis Racing carries genuine momentum after claiming their first-ever SailGP podium in Rio. Nathan Outteridge, who knows these waters as well as almost anyone in the fleet, has the tools to turn that breakthrough into something more significant. A podium here would make the Swedish programme impossible to ignore as a title contender.
Perhaps the most compelling storyline of the weekend, however, belongs to the U.S. SailGP Team. Taylor Canfield's crew have transformed themselves from wooden-spoon finishers in 2025 to third overall in 2026, with an event win in Sydney already banked. Racing in front of effectively home crowds — Bermuda is followed immediately by New York on May 30-31 — the Americans will be pushing hard.
Spain's Los Gallos, the 2024 Bermuda champions, are also signalling a return to form at precisely the right moment.
New Zealand's Black Foils remain sidelined as repairs continue following their Auckland incident, leaving eleven teams to contest the international circuit's fifth event of Season 6, where more than 5,000 spectators are expected at the Morgan's Point viewing area.
