Guirec Soudée’s incredible around the world record bid against the prevailing winds and currents looks set to deliver

To race around the world alone non-stop is pretty special and those that succeed enter an elite club. But when it comes to lapping the planet against the prevailing winds and currents, non-stop and alone the list stops way short of double figures.

Last Christmas, solo sailor Guirec Soudée left France to set a new record and add his name to the gang, but his campaign took a very different approach.

Instead of choosing a sturdy metal hulled monohull, Soudée and his team decided to take on the world in reverse with a fragile Ultim trimaran.

And from that point onwards everything was different. Indeed, some may think it's all the wrong way round.

This an extraordinary story about an exceptional young sailor/adventurer who has consistently taken a bold an alternative approach.

As we publish this feature he is within hours of a finish that will see him smash what is one of the hardest records to complete, let alone break.
