Philippe Presti takes on his dream job

Philippe Presti is known for his unassuming style and easy smile. But when I caught up with him recently in Lorient at the launch of the French America’s Cup challenger La Roche-Posay Racing Team, that trademark smile seemed even broader than usual – and with good reason.

The Frenchman had just been named as team manager of the French AC38 campaign – a role that mirrors his previously announced position with the syndicate’s parallel operation, the DS Automobiles France SailGP Team – and he was clearly pleased as punch to be at the centre of one of the most complex and compelling projects in Grand Prix yacht racing.

More than just yet another Cup contract – for the patriotic Presti this latest AC appointment is a return home. After decades embedded in foreign campaigns, including Italy and the United States, the opportunity to lead a French challenge carries a deeper meaning.

“It’s a dream job,” he confesses. “Being here with the French flag means something for me. I feel the responsibility.”
