After a six-year absence, the 52 Super Series will make a highly anticipated return to Porto Cervo for the 2025 season finale. The championship has delivered nail-biting finishes in recent years—Quantum Racing powered by American Magic clinched the 2024 title by just a single point, while 2023 saw the overall winner decided on a tie-break. With at least 13 teams expected to compete, the Porto Cervo regatta is shaping up to be one of the most competitive in recent history.

This year’s entry list includes past regatta winners Quantum Racing and Sled, but a new addition to the fleet will be Andrea Lacorte’s Italian team, which joins the circuit for the first time with Alkedo powered by Vitamina. Sailing the former Azzurra, the boat that famously secured the 52 Super Series title in Porto Cervo, Lacorte is eagerly anticipating racing on one of sailing’s most iconic courses.

“Porto Cervo seems like a place created by nature specifically for inshore and offshore racing,” said Lacorte. “There are beautiful islands to sail around, there is almost always wind, the sun is shining—except on rare occasions—and the scenery is fantastic. The racecourse is protected by a ring of islands, meaning the waves are never too high. And, of course, the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda is an iconic venue in the history of Italian sailing.”

Back in 2019, Takashi Okura’s Sled delivered a masterclass in Porto Cervo, winning a record-breaking five races in a row to secure victory. Don Cowie, the team’s project manager and mainsheet trimmer, recalls that magical week:

“We were smoking fast. Mr. Okura was sailing the boat incredibly well, and it was a breezy regatta where the changes we made really paid off. It was something special. We’re looking forward to being back in Porto Cervo—it’s a bit later in the season this time, but hopefully, we’ll get great conditions and be able to put in a performance like we did in 2019.”

Few sailors know Porto Cervo better than Vasco Vascotto. Having won the 52 Super Series season title twice (2015 and 2017) with Azzurra, the Italian tactician is keen to guide Harm Müller-Spreer’s Platoon Aviation to victory in familiar waters.

“My memories of Porto Cervo are filled with incredible moments—winning championships with Azzurra and competing alongside great friends,” said Vascotto. “As an Italian, it is a special pleasure to return to these waters, especially in a year where we remember those who have left us, including His Majesty the Aga Khan and our dear friend Matteo Auguadro, who played such important roles in the history of this sport.”
