This past weekend’s SailGP event in Portsmouth on the south coast of the UK was one of the best two days of SailGP racing we have seen for a good while. The weather gods played ball and delivered sunshine and breeze in the mid teens, and the quality and quantity of racing we were treated to more than confirmed – if confirmation were needed – that split fleets is the way to go from here on.
The Spanish Los Gallos – led by Diego Botin – proved once and for all just what a slick and talented bunch they are, as they took their second consecutive event win of the season – and moved into second place in the Season 5 standings, albeit still 12 points behind Tom Slingsby’s Australian Bonds Flying Roos.
